Clothing
Azorean island life is coastal causal and practical. We recommend layers, comfortable clothing, and shoes for walking around Angra do Heroísmo which has many hills and cobblestone streets. The weather can change quickly and go from warm to cool and sunny to a light mist. We recommend having your swimsuit with you as well as a light rain jacket.
LiquidRoots™️ Class Attire
Light yoga pants, board shorts, a workout bra, a light tank, or a one-piece supportive swimsuit.
Board shorts for men (avoid heavy cotton that will not dry quickly).
Comfort and support so you will not be worried about falling out of anything while moving.

Local Azorean Information
Currency = Euros
There are bank machines you can use with your debit/credit cards. International fees may apply.
We highly recommend you have euros to pay for some of the smaller purchases that may not accept credit card payments.
WiFi
Available at our hotel, and most but not all locations. Ask for WiFi passwords at cafés and restaurants.
Plugs & Adaptors
To plug in your electronics you’ll need a Type C or Type F adaptor.
We highly suggest you download this FREE app. It’s a great way to text and call internationally via WiFi. It’s a very useful way to connect to each other while we are there.
Tipping
Leaving tips in restaurants and cafes is not common in the Azores. However, if you really want to thank an obliging waiter, you can add around 10% of the sum to your total bill. If you take a tour, tipping your guide 5 euros is standard.
Weather
Day 70-80 degrees
Night: 60-70 degrees. Bring a light jacket for the evening.
Island weather can often mean a surprise rain shower followed by a rainbow.
Food in the Azores
The Azores are known for fresh, simple cuisine shaped by the surrounding ocean and volcanic landscape. Local meals often feature fresh fish and seafood, pasture-raised meats, potatoes, rice, seasonal vegetables, and tropical fruit. The islands are also famous for their dairy products, including cheeses like São Jorge Cheese.
Many dishes are naturally simple and minimally processed, making it easy to enjoy fresh local ingredients while visiting.
Dietary Preferences
While Azorean cuisine is delicious and fresh, it traditionally includes fish, meat, bread, and dairy, so some dietary preferences may require a bit of planning.
Gluten-Free
There are several naturally gluten-free options, including:
Grilled fish or seafood
Rice and potato dishes
Eggs and vegetable soups
Salads and fresh fruit
Vegetarian
Vegetarian options can often include:
Vegetable soups
Salads and grilled vegetables
Rice with vegetables or beans
Bread, cheese, and fresh fruit
Dairy-Free or Vegan
Options may include:
Vegetable soups and salads
Beans and vegetable dishes
Rice, potatoes, and fresh produce
Fruit and simple plant-based dishes
Because the islands are small and traditional cuisine is common, vegan or highly specialized diets may have fewer restaurant options, particularly outside larger towns. Selected Nut Milks or Soy Milk can be found at the grocery.
Bringing Personal Nutrition Items
If you follow a specific nutrition program or have strict dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, etc.), we recommend bringing a few familiar staples from home. Specialty foods can be limited.
Some guests find it helpful to pack:
Protein powder or collagen
Greens or superfood powders
Electrolyte packets
Protein or nutrition bars
Gluten-free snacks or crackers
Any supplements or daily nutrition items you normally use
If you have any special nutrition needs or questions, please ask JO or Kari for details.
